哥大工程学院高级常务副院长张世富当选美国计算机协会院士

2017年新当选美国计算机协会院士们的卓越成就将会引领科学研究与社会生活走向巨大变革。他们的研究成果在全球经济中发挥着至关重要的作用，同时也影响着我们的工作方式与日常生活。

哥伦比亚大学傅氏基金工程和应用科学学院高级常务副院长、电子通信Richard Dicker讲席教授、电气工程和计算机科学教授张世富（Shih-Fu Chang）于2017年底当选美国计算机协会院士（ACM Fellow）。（张世富教授同时担任哥大全球中心 | 北京的教授指导委员会委员）

Shih-Fu Chang, senior executive vice dean, the Richard Dicker Professor of Telecommunications, and professor of electrical engineering and of computer science, has been named a 2017 Fellow of the ACM (the Association for Computing Machinery).

美国计算机协会主席维基·汉森（Vicki L. Hanson）表示：“成为美国计算机协会院士意味着接受资深会员之荣誉，代表着不到协会成员总人数1%的杰出精英群体。通过院士嘉许项目，我们得以表彰在计算机领域作出里程碑式贡献的科学家，他们努力工作、乐于奉献、积极表率，前所未有地改善着人们日常生活中的方方面面。”

"To be selected as a Fellow is to join our most renowned member grade and an elite group that represents less than one percent of ACM’s overall membership,” explains ACM President Vicki L. Hanson. “The Fellows program allows us to shine a light on landmark contributions to computing, as well as the men and women whose hard work, dedication, and inspiration are responsible for groundbreaking work that improves our lives in so many ways.”

获此殊荣的张世富教授在数字时代下技术革新中所扮演的重要角色已得到广泛认可。作为全球54位新当选的美国计算机协会院士之一，张世富教授最负盛誉的是他在"大规模多媒体内容识别与多媒体信息检索方面的突出贡献"。

One of 54 new fellows around the world recognized for their transformative roles in advancing technology in the digital age, Chang was cited for his “contributions to large-scale multimedia content recognition and multimedia information retrieval.”

张教授表示：“我很荣幸能和其他优秀的科学家们一同获得这项殊荣，特别是在数字计算技术对社会具有重大影响的今天。”张教授同时也在哥伦比亚大学数据科学研究所任职。

“I am very pleased to join other distinguished colleagues in receiving this prestigious honor from ACM, especially given the major impact of digital computing technologies on society today,” says Chang, who is also a member of the Data Science Institute.

张世富教授是哥伦比亚大学DVMM实验室负责人，他引领着多媒体内容的分析、检索和交互等新技术与新系统的开发，同时也着力研究包括计算机视觉、机器学习等关键课题。多年来，张教授带领的科研团队为影像识别、多媒体知识构建、图像取证及大规模多媒体数据索引开创了全新的理论、算法和系统。他的团队现已开发出多款全新应用程序，可用于多源新闻视频搜索、移动视觉查找以及大规模信息分类的脑机接口开发。

Chang, who directs the DVMM Lab, has pioneered the development of new techniques and systems for multimedia content analysis, retrieval, and communications while addressing fundamental challenges in computer vision and machine learning. Over the years, Chang’s group has created new theories, algorithms, and systems for image/video recognition, multimedia knowledge construction, image forensics, and large-scale multimedia data indexing. His team has developed novel applications for multi-source news video search, mobile visual search, and brain machine interfaces for large-scale information triage.

美国计算机协会作为全世界最大的科学性及教育性计算机协会，每年向计算机科学和信息技术方面取得杰出科研成就的科学家授予荣誉。其中最著名的“A.M.图灵奖”将会颁发给“在计算机领域具有长期重大技术贡献”的科学家。

ACM recognizes excellence through its eminent awards for technical and professional achievements and contributions in computer science and information technology. Its prestigious A.M. Turing Award is to an individual selected for contributions "of lasting and major technical importance to the computer field".
